name the band and dont cheat

Nothing, nothing, nothing but the one thing

Someone said my words are out of balance
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Dying words I bury everyday
Nothing to say, I've got nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing

You've got nothing, nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing

Big bad word spell it with four letters
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Oh my God, your words are out of balance
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing
Nothing, nothing

You've got nothing, nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing

Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

im gonna be rich! and fat.

with everyone suing everyone else for everything these days, there is one law suit yet to be tried. you can sue mcdonalds for too hot coffee that scalded you. you can sue philip morris because you purchased their cigarettes and eventually got cancer. but what hasnt been tried is suing for obesity. i figure if i keep drinking coke/soda/pop till i am really fat, and in addition i may acquire other diseases (diabetes, high cholesterol, other heart disease) i can argue that drinking soda inhibited my quality of life and may come out with a huge settlement. leave a comment if you want to do some class-action.

deviant sex

"im trying to find the logic of our sex laws," beck once sang in one of his not-best songs. my state's anti-sodomy b/w homosexuals law was struck down yesterday by the supreme court, and i think this has infuriated God. there is a black cloud literally looming over austin, i think because outside of san francisco, austin probably has the largest per capita gay population in the U.S. i currently have a great view if God elects to decimate my town, the new Sodom that it is. im not sure how i feel about the Court's ruling myself. i mean yes, i say ban gay sex if it is actually enforceable but since it would be very hard to do so, i dont know how you can maintain that there is a point in such a law. id rather see a gay pda law in effect. and while theyre at it they can pass a general pda law too.

Unknown Pleasure

well i just wrote this whole entry and now im gonna have to do it again cuz when i tried to save it it disappeared. and then i posted a blank blog. hmmm.
john mentioned "guilty" pleasures he had in music so i thought i could do a top five, and maybe everyone who wants to could do theirs here as well.
first, let me say that i have a certain nostalgia for the alt-rock i listened to in jr. high and high school (95-2000). and this list isnt really in order.

1. Bush - this band will not go down as the second coming of the rolling stones, but when i hear 16stone, i am immediately returned to 8th grade and am ready to rock and/or break something.
2. No Doubt - a similar 8th grade effect for "Spiderwebs" plus Gwen is beautiful.
3. The New Pornographers - this band is up and coming decent power pop. but how can you listen to them without feeling dirty? plus, theyre canadian. eh?
4. Our Lady Peace - 5 albums, the first and last of which suck pretty bad, but the 2nd and 3rd are pretty rockin'. i havent heard the fourth. aiee, aiee, aiee, yeah, superman's dead. also canadian.
5. The Cardigans - you know "Lovefool": "Love me Love me, say that you love me." i like the girl's voice which is why i was the only one who ever enjoyed this song. but their 2nd album "gran turismo" is completely different and is actually really good. try it, youll like it but b/c of lovefool, youll still feel the urge to hide your enjoyment.

music rant

i need to rant about some overrated bands/genres. first on my list is the counting crows. everyone likes em and i admit, theyre ok. but lets face it, the counting crows are to contemporary rock what the googoo dolls were in the late nineties. they write decent pop-rock ditties that all sound roughly the same. yet, everyone takes adam duritz for the reincarnation of bob dylan. bullshit. nuff said. movin' on.

next, what is with pop-punk? sum 41, new found glory and good charlotte? pah-lease. at one point, i thought blink 182 was funny with some decent tunes, but if i had known they were gonna spawn this tidal wave of crap (picture it - a tidal wave of crap- aaaugh! run!) i mightve carried out some terroristic plot to stop it. too late now. i just wish it would go away. it has ruined all that is good about punk music. just listen to the clash and the sex pistols, people. thats all the rant i have for now but more will come later.

one final question, however. has anyone noticed the trend in music videos lately using this new sort of paper-looking animation? you can see it in the new radiohead there, there, and the new train video (train is also on the overrated list). i think this trend/technique started with coldplay's trouble and the red hot chili peppers' otherside, but correct me if im wrong. i dont like this trend much. maybe i just prefer reality to virtual reality. but i really dont like that almost every video ive seen lately uses it. whats worse is the digital realities in the creed and linkin park videos. theres no plot - just random fly-by shots of futuristic far away places.

debbie matenopoulos II

here's something funny. or at least i think it is. im watching tv with my 12 year old bro when he stops on the tv guide channel and i see debbie matenopoulos on and say "hey, theres my girlfriend." he's says, "whatever, shes too old for you. shes like 30." this is a kid who hasnt yet begun to discover his sexuality. so i simply replied that once he did, he would understand that that wouldnt matter. he giggled. i dont know if i properly conveyed the humor in that moment especially since few of you know him, but that led to a bet wherein i began searching for her bio on the net to see how old she is. and i cant figure it out. it seems shes 28, but there is no birthdate anywhere. maybe i will email her and ask. i dont think thats too old. i did find out that my past entry about debbie now allows this site to turn up in searches for her name. i thought that was funny too.

O

here is an article i read today in texas monthly which is also on the web. you will enjoy it if you like humor or owen wilson, which are synonymous terms. you will note in the article that both wes anderson and owen attended the university of texas at austin. so now ive missed out on girls and stardom.

day of the new

ok, after rousing support for the new name change (all of 2 pertinent comments), and upon waking up to view a competely different color scheme, i took it as a sign from...Josiah...that the name change was warranted.

June 20, 2003

Name change, anyone?

ok, currently this blog is known as the DPB. and i like the name, but its only two days old so if a better name occurs to me or someone else i would consider revising. i was watching fox sports sw today and saw a commercial for their july 16 "beyond the glory" with mike tyson rambling about stupid stuff like how he'll be good in his next life, etc. then the commercial ended with "...on the next beyond the glory...(viewer discretion strongly advised)." that made me laugh aloud. so i thought maybe itd be a good name for this blog. let me know what you think or if that will inconvenience those of you who have already linked to this blog.

Clarification

I thank all of you who have commented thus far on my blog. However, regarding the comments for the last blog, entitled "debbie matenpoulos," i feel the need to clarify something about how i was judging the ut women versus the covenant women. First, i was primarily talking about the main things i look for physically in a girl: a pretty face (smile and skin mainly) and a small to average frame. i think most can agree that these are good criteria. im not looking at those who are dressed up at the party vs. those who arent at school. im looking at those criteria that i just listed. i like girls who are naturally good looking with or without makeup or added frills (because i dont really like makeup). so im not talking about whether girls at covenant are not trying or dont care because that would be completely hypocritical on my part. anyone who knows me realizes i dont go out of my way to look good everyday for the ladies. my deal here is why can i go to one party and see 50 of 60 girls there that even without looking their best would still blow away 45 of the top 50 at covenant? hmmm?
oh and there was another comment posted right as i published this last blog which raises a relevant issue: i was sober. i had only been there maybe 20-30 minutes before the cops came and busted it up. now why does that never happen at covenant?

debbie matenopoulos

ok, second blog. i'll stop counting soon, i promise - its just all so new to me. im like a small child who wanders into the middle of a movie. but right after my first post, i went downstairs and watched some television while i ate my lunch. i turned to the tv guide channel (7 out here) to see what was on. and suddenly i didnt care... i saw my love, debbie matenopoulos. shes all i need to see on the tv. why watch anything else? shes beautiful. does anyone else have a similar crush on this woman? i mean i tune in to tv guide just to see her. granted, the link to her bio isnt great, but if you tune in to tv guide at 5 minutes before the hour youre sure to be as smitten as i am. and another thing about women...i attend covenant college. there are some cute girls there. but tonight i was at a small party in austin where all the ut students live and 90% of the girls there were cuter than any girl ive ever seen at covenant so i wonder why no one who looks that good is at covenant. not one girl! i know that few if any of these girls at the party were christians, so does that mean that non-christians are cuter than christian girls? and if so, why is that? or do cute christian girls just decide covenant isnt the place for them? i dunno, its just a thought. maybe there arent enough cute guys there either. maybe we're all just average looking christians. this is just something ive thought about this past year or so that has bugged me. i would like to see just one debbie matenopoulos at covenant college.

first blog

ok, well its 10 til 2pm here in the central timezone, and i now have a blog (thanks to my recently married friend, josiah). i mean, everyone else has one right? why shouldnt i? so here i am. welcome to the dpb.

the first question that arose in my mind is whether one should be self-conscious about writing blogs since many of his friends will see and interact with the blog or whether one should be carefree in his blog since the general public whom the blog's author doesnt know will also have access. but then this whole issue is rendered moot because my response is "who gives two shits? im gonna do what i want on here anyway." so i guess i've gone with the carefree option. hopefully it wont get me suspended from a certain educational institution. heh.
