SpongeBlog

after entering a spongebob squarepants quote for my blog subtitle/description, i thought id write a piece on the cartoon. i dont know who all out there is familiar with the show or whether im just one of the few college kids that watch it, but perhaps many of you have discovered the hilarity that is spongebob. i watch the show frequently (its on all day monday, and 4:30 cst every other weekday on nickelodeon) and i think it has to be the best cartoon since the simpsons. it combines all the elements of comedy into it including good deal of marx bros. type physical comedy. the concept of the cartoon may not sound intriguing (a sponge and starfish's exploits underwater) but its guaranteed entertainment every time. check it out.

DP,

Seriously, I really wanna talk with you about scoring some of that dirt from Old Tiger Stadium as a gift for my dad's birthday. He was seeing games there back in the 50's.

You would be singing a different tune if you worked at Covenant this summer. The Student Life campers show up equipped to the teeth with Spongebob shirts, pillows, ties, and what-have-you. I have reached the point where I am dying to strangle the next kid to subject me to that maniacally smiling visage.

I love Spongebob; the whole show cracks me up, every time. "What's a...'sal-aad?'"

One of my co-workers at a summer camp last year had something of a compulsion to do the "spongebob scream" (a high-pitched "aaaaaa!") upon the slightest provocation. It was less annoying than somebody farting on command, but only slightly.

There was a weird NYTimes article a few weeks back on the guy who does spongebob's voice. Apparently he has a five year old son who is very impressed that his father is spongebob. His dad is he hero because he's a sponge. Huh.

ok so some of the people who like spongebob are annoying, and perhaps spongebob is annoyingly ubiquitous, but that doesnt take away from the fact that it is quality television programming that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age, provided of course that these people can put aside their annoyances and have some fun.

Not that I ever would admit this in person, but I do find Sponge Bob mildly entertaining and even funny at times! My fave episode was the one where SB has bad breath and then Patrick gets bad breath and they are convinced no one wants to be near them because Patrick is ugly...
