well i just found out my main job (read day or paying job) has no need for me after this week. no, im not being fired, theres just nothing for me to do anymore now that our marketing blitz campaigns are over. so i may be coming back to chatty in a week or so. MAY. i HOPE it happens. it depends on several factors...first, if my not paying/lame ass night job (waiting tables for roughly $60 a week - 3 shifts) can afford not to schedule me anymore, which they should be able to since NO ONE EATS THERE. second, one in my situation always has to run things by the old parental contingent. and third, there are a few friends i havent seen all summer who will be getting back this week so it also depends on whether i feel we've had our share of fun together or not. anyway, i miss you guys a lot and hope to be back soon. i wanna do a catacombs fall 2000 night at your safari pub place
i saw 28 days later last night and it rocked, just like all the reviews i read said it would. if you go see it, which i recommend you do unless you dont like zombies or zombie related violence, make sure you stick around through the end credits...theres an alternate ending. i think its the best movie ive seen this summer. is it showing in chattanooga?
here in austin we have a pest control company that has annoying commercials and has annoying trucks all over the city. they are ubiquitous. i see at least one a day. so to me, they are themselves pests. and so i ask, are there pest controller controllers? and if so can someone give me some contact info? its like the 11th plague out here.
i know youre probably all sick of the kobe bryant case and this post may well cause you to destroy some formerly valuable object or even commit suicide. but what was he thinking?!! his wife is hot!
but what im really wanting to discuss is mark cuban's comments on the whole thing...basically that the publicity is good for the nba as a business. everybody in the press has taken these comments way out of context like cuban was glad that this happened. but that doesnt seem to be the case to me. from what ive heard him say and from what he seemed to indicate a few nights ago on sportscenter while talking to an absolutely irate dan patrick, is that he was stating it as a matter of fact (in his opinion) not that it was a good thing in itself. the link above is the only article ive seen that really has any context for his statements. he clarifies himself pretty well afterward.
i tend to agree with him...i think this incident will draw many more viewers at least to television that will want to see kobe play, if they hadnt before. it may turn some away, but as cuban notes, who didnt want to see mike tyson fight after he got out of prison? he was the greatest boxer of the last 20 years and even though he had lost a great deal of his ability as a boxer by the time he had gotten out of jail, his fights to this day remain the biggest boxing draws, even if theyre not title fights. in like manner, kobe is the best the nba has right now, and i predict the masses will react similarly by tuning into the nba more often. and tuning in is the precursor to buying nba merchandise or attending games, etc. the bottom line is that while this event is not good for the nba's image or kobe's image or anyone on a personal or moral evel, it will economically benefit the nba because it will increase revenue. and finally, lest anyone think i am endorsing (alleged) rape as a way to bring in business...i certainly dont think that. nor am i happy that they occurred. rape, or at the very best, adultery is certainly never good or welcome for a business' or personal image, but that doesnt mean its wrong to say that it brings in cash. isnt that what the movie 'chicago' is all about?
im in a dilemma. before you read on, please understand that upwards of 95% of you wont care or even understand what im talking about, but im in a tight spot, as george clooney would say. i have one add/drop left for my 5x5 fantasy baseball league and i need a little bit of everything, but i think im gonna go for a hitter since i recently traded carlos betlran and have a gap in my once formidable outfield (since may its been bonds, sosa, beltran, b. williams, ichiro, corey patterson, and jacque jones but since then patterson has torn his acl, ive traded beltran and williams has just sucked or been likewise injured.) but theres three outfielders im interested in and theyre all similar, but theres a bunch of questions about each one. they are jay gibbons of the orioles, jose guillen of the a's and phil nevin of the padres. guillen is having the best season, but it was with the reds and now hes with the a's who play in a pitchers park instead of the reds little bandbox so i think hes gonna struggle for the rest of the year. nevin missed the first half of the season but is the best hitter in the group, but it may take awhile to regain his form (72 hr's the last two years). and gibbons has never hit like this before. i dont know what to do and ive only got 52 games left so i need to make this move fast. auggh! its so stressful. life is so hard sometimes. so for those of you who know the players...who should i go with?
this summer is so boring i dont have anything to blog about anymore. i really cant wait to get back to chattanooga. all of my friends are out there. i miss you guys. i really have only two here that i hang with regularly, but one is gone for the summer and the other is inconsistent and unreliable and i have no real desire to hang out with him anymore since hes let me down so many times. 3.5 weeks to go i guess. but why the hell is school starting on LABOR DAY? why dont they go ahead and be consistent by starting christmas break on the 26th and ending on the 31st?
